Ron Lyons | Songwriter, Musician & Creative Force Behind Ragged Flag Rich

​Ron Lyons is a native Texan, country songwriter, keyboard player, former police officer, rancher, and lifelong storyteller with deep roots in classic country, outlaw country, Southern rock, and real American songwriting.

 

He began playing keyboards at five years old and started writing songs seriously in the late 1990s. Since then, his work has developed into a distinct style built on old-school country storytelling, modern outlaw attitude, emotional depth, strong convictions, and cinematic lyrical imagery.

 

Today, Ron is the songwriter, musician, and creative force behind Ragged Flag Rich. Every song begins with him. The lyrics, melodies, concepts, hooks, structures, and musical direction are Ron’s creations. He shapes the arrangements, contributes instrumentation, guides the production, and has occasionally added background vocals to the recordings.

 

Ragged Flag Rich is the world Ron built around Colt and Rae Rich, the characters who carry the songs, personalities, imagery, and identity of the project. Social-media posts, comments, conversations, visuals, and other interactions involving Colt and Rae are intentionally kept in character so fans can experience Ragged Flag Rich as a complete and consistent world rather than simply a collection of songs.

That world is deeply personal to Ron because it draws heavily from his own life.

He is a former police officer who spent years seeing both the best and worst in people. He is a working rancher who understands long days, responsibility, hard choices, and the value of taking care of what belongs to you. He owns a 1965 Chevrolet C-10 for fun, drives a GMC pickup every day, and is rarely seen without dusty boots and blue jeans.

Ron is an unapologetic supporter of the Second Amendment, a strong supporter of Donald Trump, and a firm believer in faith, family, freedom, personal responsibility, and the traditional American way of life. He is married to a beautiful blonde-haired, blue-eyed woman with a voice he describes as angelic, and the love, loyalty, admiration, and strength found in that marriage influence many of the songs he writes.

These are not borrowed themes or manufactured talking points. Ron draws from his own beliefs, convictions, relationships, failures, victories, memories, and real-life experiences to bring the Ragged Flag Rich world to life.

Modern creative and production tools help him realize that world, but they do not write the songs, create the melodies, define the characters, or decide what the music should say. Those decisions belong to Ron.

 

Ragged Flag Rich was created because Ron believes this country needs music like this right now: songs that speak openly about faith, family, patriotism, loyalty, heartbreak, redemption, freedom, hard work, and the strength of ordinary Americans.

Ragged Flag Rich can say what corporate formulas, major-label gatekeepers, trend-driven playlists, and carefully managed commercial branding often will not allow. It does not soften its values to gain approval, chase whatever sound happens to be popular, or apologize for the people it represents.
